Getting There from Hotel del Coronado

The easiest route from The Del is to walk. Exit the resort onto the beach, turn right (north), and follow the sand for about three-quarters of a mile. You'll pass the Naval Amphibious Base fence line on your right and see the dog beach signage as the crowds of beachgoers thin and the off-leash pups appear. The walk takes 12–15 minutes and your dog must remain on-leash until you're inside the off-leash zone.

Prefer to drive? It's a 5-minute trip up Ocean Boulevard. Park at the free spaces along the boulevard or in the Sunset Park lot. Arrive early — by 10am on weekends and any summer day, spaces are gone.

Leash Rules & Etiquette

  • Dogs must be leashed on sidewalks and on the walk to/from the off-leash zone.
  • Once inside the marked dog beach, dogs can run off-leash but must be under voice control.
  • You must carry a leash at all times and pick up after your dog (bags provided).
  • Aggressive dogs, dogs in heat, and unattended dogs are not allowed.
  • No glass containers. Bring water — there's a rinse-off shower but no drinking fountains on the sand.

Pet-Friendly Stays at The Del

Hotel del Coronado welcomes dogs in select Beach Village cottages and a limited number of pet-friendly rooms in The Cabanas neighborhood. Expect a one-time pet fee, a welcome treat, plush dog bed, and food and water bowls on arrival. Beach Village's gated, ground-level layout is ideal — your dog can step from the patio onto the lawn without elevators or long corridors.

Pet-friendly inventory is limited and books out early in summer. Compare live availability and pet policies across booking sites before you commit.
